Hurry Up and Wait

It seems like I spend a lot of time waiting.  Not just in doctor's offices, although I do that often.  (I was at the eye doctor with Mom for two hours just this morning.  I tried to read an article on Bibi Netanyahu, but I kept dozing.)

I have a running list in my head of things I'm waiting on:

1.  For our tomatoes to turn red.

2.  For payday to come.  This involves cyclical waiting.

3.  For a toenail I stubbed badly in 2006 to grow back correctly.

4.   For the junk mail my parents receive to stop coming.  We email and send notes and email again, and the junk mail people respond, that, yes, my parents are off the list, and still...the pile arrives.

5.  For our grocery store to start stocking radicchio.

6.  For a sunny day, so I can hang clothes on the line.  Here in Florida, I'm lucky most days.  But, I still have to keep an eye on the sky.

7.  For me to stop wanting Krispy Kreme donuts and Nutella in my life.

8.  For an uninterrupted night's sleep.  Once and for all.

9.  For a grandchild.  (No pressure, kids.  Really.)

10.  For my wonderful, aging parents to accept that their disabilities do not define them.  God is in charge, and He loves them, no matter what.

11.  For my pants to fit better.  This is not likely to happen as long as I'm waiting on #7.

12.  For the housing market to improve.  We need to downsize and get into a one-level home before I fall down the stairs and break a hip.

13.  For more substantial evidence that our school loans are decreasing.  Every month, it still seems like we owe a million dollars.

14.  For my stove to croak, so I can get a flat cook top.  (Unfortunately, my stove works just fine.)

15.  For an update TV movie of Home Improvement.  Did Randy marry Lauren?  Did weird Mark ever straighten out?  What is Tim blowing up these days?

16.  For another movie with Meryl Streep.  Anything.  Any time.

17.  For designers to make modest clothes for teenage girls.

18.  For someone to figure out how to create coupons for produce.

19.  For some hardened hearts to soften.

20.  For heaven.  That's really the bottom line.

I'm not just sitting around waiting.  I'm keeping busy.  There are always errands and dishes and bills and writing and checking the sky and all.  I understand Meryl Streep couldn't care less about my movie longings.  But, oh, if she did, what a magical world it would be.

What are you waiting on?

I really think I would feel rich or at least not so uptight if it weren't for number #13. Let's see I am waiting on Ellen to call and say she read a copy of the book I sent her and have me on her show ;-) That's not too unrealistic huh?

I'm also waiting on #9 (no pressure here either ;) I'm also waiting for the warm/hot weather to arrive. We've had so many cloudy, rainy, windy, cool days, it's just weird. We live in a semi-arid region of BC, so we're not used to all this rain! I just watched Julie and Julia with my parents and my husband last night. I love Meryl Streep's acting, too! Oh, and #20. Count me in!

I sat here and tried to think...
I live so day to day, in the present moment, that I am not thinking about the future much at all. Never have--LOL! I'm just happy for each day. Sounds sappy, but it's true. Although, I do love Meryl Streep... ;)

This is a beautiful list of things to want. My mom really wanted grandchildren as well. She gave up on me and ended up adopting three boys instead (this was 14 years ago). My younger sister will be giving birth in the next couple of days. I'm guessing this will take the pressure off of me for a while:)

I, too, crave Krispe Kreme donuts but haven't had one in a really long time. One day, I will savor those delicious snacks again.

I enjoyed reading your list of waiting; that we may have patience as we wait for them all! Waiting to see if hubby gets a job, been waiting about a year and a half; he quit his nicely paid job so we could move closer to his parents; he started teaching guitar hoping that would cover what we needed him to earn but that has never picked up like it needed to; so he's been looking for something else, praying about it. Still waiting. I pray for patience as we wait (we aren't destitute, we just have to be careful with what we spend :)

Send some of the junk mail back in the prepaid envelopes I seen this on one of those secret hidden tips something or other. I don't even have green tomatoes yet so you are way a head of me there. BUT I spend huge amounts of time in DR. appts. now mostly for me but at one time it was for kids, husband, relatives, and residents so I have downsized happy about that now if I could just find me a krispy cream donut lol
Great post!!

I agree with #16! Much to my husband's chagrin: he is not as big a fan as I am. Sad!

Waiting for pay day sounds familiar! My mom is with you on # 9, and she has enlisted my grandfather to plead for a great grandchild. Maybe you can have fried green tomatoes instead of waiting for all of them to turn red. :-) It is amazing how much of our lives seem to be spent waiting for something.

I've given you an award. You can stop by my blog to claim it. :-)

haha i love this list---the one about your parents--from your page to God's ears----i got a flat cook top, only because my son gave me his old one, which really isn't that old--:)

Hey! I was at the bookstore this evening and there was a book called The Meryll Streep Movie Club...maybe you'd like that?

I think I recently got my aunt hooked on Nutella, she hadn't tried it so I got her a little snack pack...uh-oh, the gateway size!

I'm waiting to turn on the news and have a day when there is more good news than bad.

I can relate to many things on this list! Beware, they are calling for rain for the next few days in central FL where I am.
I have to ask, what is radicchio?

I know what you mean about waiting, seems I find myself hurrying and then having to wait after I hurried! Great blog post; I loved all the things you're waiting for. Food for thought. Thanks for visiting my blog today and for your nice comment.

Just stopping by to return your follow. I'm currently waiting on the rain to stop so I can take the dog for a walk. Unfortunately I live in England, so that'll be somewhere around September!

Today has been a day where I have read so many blogs just to clear my email inbox and yes I know I could just hit delete or read only the recent ones but that is not me I had 3 days of blogs to read so been at it since like 7.30am and it is now 1.30pm and still not finished and yes I know you didn't really need to know that.......but what the hell....

I would also love to see a Home Improvement movie.......as for designers designing modest clothes for teenage girls if only it so bloody hard for parents to say you can not wear that because it makes you look like a slut without saying the word slut and causeing a fight...........with said teenage girl........lol

Great list, Mare! I never thought about coupons for produce but I LOVE the idea! I go to a produce market close to home and usually get pretty decent prices, or I wait until the next week when the have a fruit or veggie at a lower price-they change all the time. But that is an incredible idea!!!

I am working on living now, in this moment, and not waiting for some future event. Otherwise I'd be waiting for the phone call offering that ever elusive permanent job, waiting for retirement, waiting to buy new clothes until I drop all this extra wait. And on and on. So, I've decided I like me right now. I like what I am doing, and the future will be here before I know it. Great post, Mare.
